Membership
Membership covers applicable patient out-of-pocket expenses for medically necessary ground ambulance transportation to any local area hospital. "Medically necessary ground ambulance transportation" means that the patient must be transported to a hospital for medically necessary services, and transportation in any other vehicle could endanger their health.
Other participating reciprocal agencies may extend member benefits to areas outside our ambulance service area. These benefits are limited to the terms of agreement in effect by the participating agency providing services at the time benefits are used. Members who receive ambulance service from any other participating agency are eligible for benefits offered by that agency. The member agrees to abide by the participating agency's terms of agreement.
What can I expect by subscribing?
If you have any questions or if you did not receive your membership subscription for this year please call our billing department at 412-331-3197.

- No Hassle Billing. NorthWest EMS will directly bill a member’s health insurance or third party on your behalf.
- Participants of State Medicaid Programs are not eligible for membership and NorthWest EMS is required to accept reimbursement as payment in full.
- Non-Emergency Ambulance transportation is subject to Medicare's rules regarding Medical Necessity Certification and often require pre-certification from a physician or pre-approval from your health insurance company. A Customer Service Representative from NorthWest EMS will be able to assist you further in this process.
- It should also be noted that NorthWest EMS does not include wheelchair van service under the annual membership and such charges remain the patient’s responsibility.
- Your ambulance membership permits us to write-off 50% of your out-of-pocket expenses including deductibles and co-payments that you would be responsible for in the event you need our services. Most insurance companies, including Medicare, require their members to pay a portion of their ambulance bills. That amount could range from $300.00 to $1,200.00. By participating in the membership program, it will greatly reduce your out-of-pocket expenses.
